In the rapidly evolving world of tech, the stories of career transformation are both inspiring and enlightening. Last week, I sat down with Guillaume Bibeau, a graduate from our bootcamp in 2017. This article delves into Gui's journey, highlighting his initial steps, the pivotal role of a coding bootcamp, and the lessons learned along the way.

As a McGill Math grad, Gui began his career in banking, a path dictated more by circumstance than passion. However, the itch for something more fulfilling, coupled with an interest in tech, led him to seek out new opportunities. His first significant step towards transformation was enrolling in a coding bootcamp. This decision marked the beginning of a new chapter, one filled with challenges, learning, and immense growth.
The bootcamp was not just a learning experience for Gui; it was a gateway to a new life. Here, he acquired the skills essential for a tech career. More importantly, the bootcamp instilled in him the confidence to pursue greater opportunities. Gui's story underscores the value of such immersive educational experiences, which equip individuals with the tools needed to navigate the tech landscape.
In tech, it’s common to move through companies every few years. It allows you to have large salary increases, learn new skills, grow your network, and never get bored. Gui leveraged this to the fullest. His first jobs post bootcamp were not the best, but enough to build his experience. After 2 years, he started working for big name tech companies like Shutterstock, Vercel, and ConsenSys. He’s also taken on freelance side projects, and built a course on Udacity.
Post-bootcamp, Gui's career took several turns, from working in various tech roles to eventually selling all his possessions to travel the world. This shift to a nomadic lifestyle was driven by a desire for freedom and exploration, made possible by the remote work opportunities in the tech industry. Gui's journey illustrates the unparalleled flexibility that a career in tech can offer, allowing for a balance between work and travel.
Gui's story is rich with insights for anyone looking to break into the tech industry or considering a significant career shift:
Gui's transition from banking to a tech-oriented nomadic lifestyle is a testament to the transformative power of education and the vast opportunities within the tech industry. His story serves as an inspiration to those contemplating a career change or seeking a more fulfilling professional life. As we navigate the complexities of the modern work environment, let Gui's journey remind us of the possibilities that lie in learning, adapting, and embracing change.
